Most of the dogs we take in are from shelters that do not adopt pit bulls out to the public. Rescue is their only chance. We take in dogs that are highly adoptable and have sound temperaments. We like to see our adoptive dogs become breed ambassadors! Since the shelters we work with are required to put any dog to sleep that resembles a pit bull we often end up with some very cute mixes as well.
Once pulled from the shelter, our dogs go through behavior evaluations, they are vet checked, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. They are tested for heartworm and started on prevention. Our dogs then find comfort in our loving foster homes. This way we can see how they interact with people, other pets, and children. After this, they are then placed up for adoption. All dogs are with us for at least a period of one month before the adoption process can begin.
Dog on dog aggression can be a trait of Pit Bulls or any breed.....
Human aggression is not typical of a true American Pit Bull Terrier.
BSL or Breed Specific Legislation:
Breed specific legislation is exactly what sounds like...regulation of your right
to own or, in many cases, not own a dog based solely on the breed or "type"
of dog, not your responsibility as an owner.
